A changing world

Agriculture is undergoing a complex but critical transition. By 2050, global food production must increase by 70% — yet that growth must happen on land that is increasingly degraded, with greater pressure to restore ecosystems rather than deplete them.

As a specialty supplier to the crop protection and seed enhancement industry, Croda Agriculture sits at the heart of this challenge. The ingredients and formulation technologies we develop directly influence how effective, efficient, and environmentally responsible crop protection products can be. That's why sustainability isn't a separate agenda for us — it shapes how we innovate.

 

How we're responding 

We bring smart science and deep expertise together to help farmers grow more with less. Through advanced crop protection solutions and seed enhancement technologies, we help farmers optimise crop quality and yield while reducing the environmental impact.

We work closely with customers to find practical ways to reduce the carbon footprint of their formulations — whether that means lowering active ingredient use, reformulating with more sustainable ingredients, or improving how actives are delivered — reducing drift, enhancing uptake, and maximising efficacy so that every application works harder.

We collaborate with researchers and partners around the world to develop crop and seed solutions that can withstand the pressures of climate change, shifting weather patterns, and ongoing land degradation. These solutions strengthen the long-term productivity of farms, giving farmers the tools they need to succeed sustainably. 

The goal is always the same: farming systems that are productive today and resilient for the long term. 

One area where this is especially tangible is biological crop protection. The shift away from chemical pesticides is accelerating — driven by tightening regulation and growing customer demand — and biologicals are at the center of it.  

Formulating them effectively is genuinely challenging: unlike chemical actives, biologicals can be fragile, complex, and need to stay viable from production all the way through to field application. It's a challenge we've invested significant expertise in addressing.

Croda's drift reduction products help targeted spraying, meaning less waste and less impact on animals, plants, water, and land.

Croda has a range of drift reduction products that help control the droplet size of agricultural spray and ensure that more of it is delivered to the intended target crop. Croda developed a low-speed wind tunnel in collaboration with academic and industry partners around the world, including agricultural, mechanical, and aerodynamic engineers. This helps to conduct in-depth research on spray droplet size control and drift reduction mechanisms.

Promote crop growth and yields

Symiro has been shown to promote crop growth and yields.

As a vital source of food, protein, and oils, improving the yield of soybean in the Latin America region eases pressure on food production and provides economic benefit to farming communities. InSync™ Plus, our Symiro-containing formulation, has been proven to increase soybean yields in Brazil by an average of 5.6%.

Making a difference to African farmers

Our biostimulant for cocoa can result in better quality and a higher yield.

Our biostimulant foliar spray for cocoa, distributed by a partner in West Africa, actively promotes the production and retention of cocoa pods, which increases yield potential by up to 40% as well as improving the quality of the crop. This has been proven to make a significant difference to African farmers in terms of the amount of cocoa produced and therefore the amount of income they can generate for themselves and their families.

How to get rid of microplastics?

Incotec develops coatings for seeds that have all the benefits of traditional seed coatings but don't contain any microplastics.

We are committed to helping feed a growing population in the most sustainable way and with minimal environmental impact. Our first microplastic-free coatings were launched mid-2020. By now a large part of the product portfolio is already free of microplastics. All new products that we develop are free of microplastics.

Improving yield in Brazil

By enhancing the bioavailibility of the active ingredient, yield is increased while less land and water are needed.
